If you live in Powys or Gwynedd, your council already voted on PR. In both counties, solid majorities of the public called for PR in their public consultations – over 60% of people in Powys and 72% in Gwynedd.
Unfortunately, a majority of councillors in Powys voted against the wishes of their constituents and chose to keep the First Past the Post system.
In Gwynedd, councillors chose PR by 45 votes to 22. But the Welsh Government set a very high bar – they required the Yes vote to reach not just two-thirds of those who voted, but two-thirds of the total number of seats on the council. 46 Yes votes were required, and PR fell short by just one vote.
