Make Votes Matter is delighted to announce the appointment of Susanna Dammann as its new Chair of the Board. Reacting to the news, Susanna said:

“I am absolutely delighted to accept the invitation of the Board of Make Votes Matter to act as Chair of the Board. Although a relative newby (2019) to Make Votes Matter, I have been in favour of Proportional Representation since I was sixteen, when I first learnt what it is (and that is a LONG time ago!). I was delighted to discover MVM, joining our South West London local group as a volunteer and learning a huge amount from members of our group and others I’ve met at various events over the years.

“I feel particularly honoured to be given an opportunity to help build on the amazing work achieved by Klina and her team over the last years: the cross-party Alliance for PR, the Good Systems Agreement, and the links forged with individuals and other campaigning bodies over the years have made MVM a major player in the campaign for electoral reform though Proportional Representation. My job will be to support and enable the deliberations of the Board on the strategic direction of MVM and to support Emma Harrison in her executive role. Together we will continue the work so ably begun: to develop and deepen our relationship with the grassroots volunteers so essential to our impact; to develop financial and fundraising strategies to build stability for the organisation; to enable young people to be as involved and visible in the movement as they deserve to be; and to ensure that our strategy leads to the change we all wish to see.

“Our electoral system is deeply unfair; only just over one third of voters backed the current government; how can the other two thirds feel ‘heard’, involved or represented in this situation? No wonder the comment I hear most often on an MVM street stall is,“There’s no point in voting – they’re all in it for themselves, all as bad as each other and nothing changes”. None of these statements is true, but you can see why people believe it.

“I am so much looking forward to playing my part in this movement for an essential change and to working with an amazing bunch of people.”
