How disproportional is your council?
Under First-Past-The-Post, a party can win a landslide of seats with a minority of votes. Enter your postcode to see what happened in your area in the 2026 local elections.
The seats–votes gap is the difference between the winning party's seat share and their vote share, indicating how much extra power First-Past-The-Post gave them. Make Votes Matter campaigns for proportional representation in the House of Commons.
Why does this matter?
First-past-the-post (FPTP) means parties can win huge majorities of council seats with well under half the votes. Millions of votes count for nothing, while the winner gets an outsized share of power. Proportional representation would mean every vote genuinely counts.
