Our Principles
We work with anyone who shares our commitment to democracy, whatever your background, beliefs or shoe size.
But if you want to use our brand and resources, you need to live up to our core values. These aren’t optional extras. They’re the foundation of everything we do.
-
Respect
We represent a diverse, cross-party community. We treat everyone with respect, even when we disagree. We never punch down or make attacks that involve other groups who might be part of the MVM coalition, even if we disagree with them on other issues.
-
Integrity
We act transparently, lawfully and honestly. We want to make our case based on improving our democracy for everyone, not based on the sole political gain for one party or group.
-
Strategy
We are focused on making proportional representation a reality, and all members of the campaign are united around this common goal. This campaign is about collective action. We are tactical, thoughtful and strategic in our approach.
-
Empathy
We listen to one another and treat each other kindly. We know we won’t always agree, but we always try to understand.
-
Unity
We work across party lines and regional divides. Proportional representation creates cooperation, and we model that in our activism. No cliques or turf wars.
-
Persistence
This is a hard fight. Our political system resists change. But others have done it, and we can too. If we stick together, we will win.
These values are important to all of our activists, volunteers and groups. They’re the foundation of how we work together to achieve change. They help ensure everyone has the opportunity to contribute in their own way.
In extreme cases, individuals or groups who refuse to uphold these values may be removed from the campaign. Likewise, challenge us at HQ if you ever feel that we are falling short of our shared principles.
